Aircraft Lost Wing Before Arkansas Crash
Investigators say the small plane that crashed recently in Arkansas near the White River in Baxter County and killed two people lost a wing before impact.
The National Transportation Safety Board says a wing from the 1982 Cessna T-210 single-engine aircraft was found a half-mile from where the fuselage and the still-attached other wing hit the ground.
Both people aboard were killed – 62-year-old Robert Joseph Ross of Santa Cruz, Calif., and his 32-year-old son, Michael Ross, of Austin, Texas. They were flying from Danville, Ill., to Austin when the plane crashed at about noon on Sept. 7.
The wreckage will be stored at a hangar at the airport in Clinton, where remnants from last week’s crash of a medical helicopter are being stored. Both crashes remain under investigation.
