Historic Texas Dance Hall Destroyed by Fire
The Texas Department of Public Safety says a traffic accident led to a fire that destroyed a more than century-old live music dance club in Uhland.
Club 21 was billed as “the oldest continually operated country dance hall in Texas.”
Owner Willie Ilse says he does not have insurance to rebuild the club, which burned early Sunday after a two-vehicle wreck. DPS says a car slammed into the structure around 2:30 a.m. Sunday, starting a fire that destroyed the place. The bar was closed at the time of the accident.
The establishment’s website says the front part of Club 21 was built in 1893.
Uhland is 20 miles south of Austin.
