Oklahoma Police: Traffic Deaths Down 112 from 2009
Oklahoma Department of Public Safety officials say the number of people who died as the result of traffic accidents in the state during 2010 was down by 112 from the previous year.
A DPS news release said preliminary data for last year show the number of traffic fatalities totaled 625.
Capt. Chris West, spokesman for the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and DPS, said that was not only a decrease from 2009, it was also an 18-year low. He said the last year that there were fewer traffic fatalities in Oklahoma was 1992, when accidents claimed 619 lives.
Traffic deaths in Oklahoma peaked at 846 in 1997.
