Arkansans Awarded $35 Million in Disaster Aid
More than $35 million in assistance has been provided to Arkansas residents who were affected by severe storms, tornadoes and flooding that pounded the state between April 14 and June 3.
The Arkansas Department of Emergency Management and the Federal Emergency Management Agency say $34.081 million has been awarded to residents who live in the 37 counties that were part of President Obama’s May 2 presidential disaster declaration.
Officials say nearly $2 million went to tornado victims in Franklin and Johnson counties within two weeks of a separate July 8 disaster declaration.
The aid total includes grants for housing and other needs, disaster unemployment assistance and low-interest loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration.
Officials say as of Monday, nearly 10,500 people had registered with FEMA to receive help.
