Officials to Get Aerial View After Oklahoma City Fire
Oklahoma City firefighters are planning a helicopter tour to survey damage caused by a fire on the city’s northeast side.
Deputy Chief Marc Woodard said Wednesday that he and a police officer will survey the area to assess the damage, look for potential hot spots that may re-ignite and determine when residents forced from their homes will be allowed to return.
Woodard said the fire that began early Tuesday afternoon burned about 5,000 and destroyed about 20 homes. The fire was brought under control by late Tuesday – but firefighters say embers from the flames likely started a fire that destroyed a church early Wednesday morning.
Emergency Medical Services Authority spokeswoman Lara O’Leary says two firefighters and two residents suffered minor injuries.
