18 Texas Students Hospitalized After Bus Wreck
Authorities say 18 Tyler middle school students were taken to area hospitals after the bus they were riding in was hit by a station wagon that crossed into the middle of the road.
Department of Public Safety Trooper Steven Hodge tells the Tyler Morning Telegraph that most of the students taken to hospitals after Monday evening’s wreck in Smith County had whiplash and ankle injuries.
Hodge says the station wagon driven by a Dallas man was going too fast as he crested a hill and drifted over into the middle of the road, colliding with the Tyler school district bus carrying 26 kids home following an afterschool program at Dogan Middle School.
A school district spokeswoman says all of the students were treated and released Monday night.
