Driver Dies, Causes Wreck on Louisiana’s Interstate 12
State police say the driver of an tractor-trailer apparently died behind the wheel, causing his truck to hit a bridge rail on Interstate 12 in Livingston Parish and block traffic.
The crash occurred about 2 a.m. Wednesday.
Troopers say investigators believe the driver may have suffered a fatal medical condition before the accident. A preliminary investigation revealed the 18-wheeler was east of Satsuma when the driver died. According to Louisiana State Police, the truck drifted to the left and hit a bridge rail before coming to rest and blocking the inside lane of the interstate.
There was no braking or steering before the crash and troopers suspect the driver was unconscious before he hit the rail.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released.
