Report Details Flash Flood that Killed 20 in Arkansas
A flash flood that killed 20 people last year in southwest Arkansas was caused by as much as 4.7 inches of rain falling in the upper Little Missouri River watershed in three hours.
The findings are part of a U.S. Geological Survey report released Wednesday.
The Geological Survey sent a team of scientists to study the flow and height of the floodwater after the flash flood struck the Albert Pike Recreation area near Langley in June 2010.
The latest report also shows that in the nearby floodplain, which includes part of the campground, the water flowed at speeds as great as 11 feet per second.
