Feds Seeking Restitution in Louisiana Mayor’s FEMA Fraud Case
The government wants to garnish a life insurance policy of former Ball, La., Mayor Roy Hebron to insure payment of court-ordered restitution for FEMA theft.
The Town Talk reports that Hebron owes $123,518 of the $130,666 in restitution and a fine ordered by a federal judge.
Hebron pleaded guilty early this year to conspiracy to defraud the U.S. government after a federal investigation into town of Ball activities following Hurricane Gustav in 2008. He was sentenced to four years.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office this week issued a writ of garnishment to Jackson National Life Insurance Co. seeking the “surrender value” of Hebron’s policy. The company has 10 days to respond.
Court documents do not reveal the amount of Hebron’s life insurance policy or its case value.
