Lawsuit Pending on Waste Site in Louisiana
Lafayette city-parish government is facing a lawsuit seeking damages that could climb into the millions of dollars after the council’s vote to block a planned garbage transfer station in north Lafayette, La.
The Advocate reports Waste Facilities of Lafayette, which was developing the 16-acre site to lease to garbage company IESI, filed a lawsuit this week in federal court, seeking damages for lost business and money already spent to develop the project.
The lawsuit does not give a figure for the total damages being sought, but City-Parish Councilman Brandon Shelvin said that Waste Facilities and IESI have made recent legal demands on city-parish government for a total of $17 million.
Shelvin said the total cost for the facility was between $3 million and $4 million, had it been completed.
