Texas Company Charged in Causing Deaths
A Southeast Texas company and its ex-president have been charged with conspiring to illegally transport hazardous materials, causing the deaths of two workers.
Prosecutors on Thursday announced a federal grand jury has indicted Port Arthur Chemical and Environmental Services LLC and 41-year-old Matthew Lawrence Bowman of Houston. A statement says the 13-count indictment was returned Wednesday in Beaumont.
The indictment alleges Bowman schemed to transport hazardous materials without proper documentation and failed to protect employees from exposure to hazardous gases. It says hydrogen sulfide exposure caused the deaths of two truck drivers in December 2008 and April 2009.
The conspiracy count carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison. Bowman was president and owner of the company that operated until November 2010.
