Oklahoma Attorney General Charges Man With Workers’ Comp Fraud
A Bethany, Okla., man who claimed he was injured on the job has been charged with workers’ compensation fraud.
Attorney General Scott Pruitt’s office said Wednesday the charge was filed against Tony Azar.
Prosecutors say Azar went to the Workers’ Compensation Court in 2009 and claimed he slipped and fell on wet pavement near a swimming pool.
In 2010, Azar sought medical treatment in Oklahoma City for a lower back injury. Officials say he claimed the ongoing pain left him unable to be active without assistance and he had to use a cane when walking. But prosecutors allege surveillance video showed him walking without a cane, running and bending at the waist.
Officials say Azar received more than $3,000 in disability benefits.
