San Antonio Lawmakers Push Ahead on Cybersecurity
A Republican lawmaker says the state needs a cybersecurity coordinator to lessen the state’s vulnerability to hackers.
The House Technology Committee on Monday left pending two of the chief bills aimed at cybersecurity this session. State Rep. Lyle Larson of San Antonio is asking the Legislature to create a chief cybersecurity position, which would be aimed at heightening awareness of potential attacks to the state’s computer system.
San Antonio is home to major national cybersecurity efforts and research on state campuses. Democratic Sen. Leticia Van de Putte has already successfully steered similar measures to full chamber for a vote.
Under the bill, the cybersecurity coordinator would be established under the state’s Department of Information Resources.
