Man Dies in Texas Construction Accident
Police say a Texas construction worker at a site in College Station has died after being pinned to the ground by two 1,500-pound, 20-feet-long shoring panels.
Police say 49-year-old Armando Gonzalez of Bryan died Wednesday afternoon as crews were working on a lift station for wastewater for the Texas A&M Health Science Center.
Police say the man was pinned inside a 30 to 40-foot hole.
Incident Commander Lt. Timothy Sullivan with the College Station Fire Department tells the Bryan-College Station Eagle that the shoring had “given out.”
To get the man out, firefighters used high-pressure bags designed for heavy lifting to create space between the shoring and the ground. An excavator that was already on site to lift and lower several hundred pounds of equipment was also used.
