OSHA Cites East Texas Sawmill After Worker Death
Federal regulators have cited an East Texas sawmill for 17 alleged safety and health violations after the December death of a worker.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration on Wednesday announced proposed penalties topping $116,000 against Nix Forest Industries Inc. of Timpson.
Investigators say Augustine Ramirez died after being struck by a broken band saw blade. OSHA says other workers were also exposed to hazards.
Nix Forest Industries has 15 business days to comply, request an informal conference with OSHA or contest the findings.
The company didn’t immediately comment Wednesday.
Timpson is 160 miles northeast of Houston.
