Louisiana Fire District Rating Improves
The Madisonville-area fire department has been given an improved rating, which will mean a reduction in fire insurance rates for property owners in the Louisiana district. Effective Sept. 9, the rating for the 2nd Fire Protection District will move from a 6 to a 5 on the 1-to-10 scale, with 1 being the best possible grade.
The Times-Picayune reports fire departments get rated every five years by the Property Insurance Association of Louisiana, and Fire Chief Michael Stein attributed his department’s improved rating to more manpower, more equipment and trying to improve the water supply.
The district stretches roughly from Interstate 12 to Lake Pontchartrain and from the Tchefuncte River to the Tangipahoa Parish line. It also includes an area north of I-12 and east of Louisiana 21 below Covington.
