Houma Police Increase Patrols to Curb DWIs
More Houma police patrol officers will be on the roads this month to look for drunken drivers because of a Louisiana Highway Safety Commission grant.
Police Chief Todd Duplantis tells The Courier the agency will have about four extra patrol cars roaming at any given time until Sept. 3 as part of the commission’s campaign against DWIs.
The money to pay for the extra officers and gas comes from the Juvenile Underage Drinking Enforcement Grant, which the department received in 2012. The two-year $201,000 influx of cash allows police to provide extra time to drinking and driving enforcement. Duplantis says the goal is to keep alcohol away from those younger than 21.
