Louisiana Airport Plans New Fire Station

Monroe, La., officials say they plan to build a $1.4 million fire station at the airport to house a special truck designed to respond to aircraft emergencies.

The News-Star reports the city council will vote Tuesday whether to open the station for bids.

Airport General Manager Ron Phillips said the cost will be paid entirely by the state through a grant designated specifically for the station.

The station will house the Monroe Fire Department’s aircraft rescue and firefighting truck, which is designed for handing emergencies involving aircraft.

The city purchased the unit in January 2013 to replace three other vehicles. It offers greater fire suppression, control and safety using innovative firefighting methods.
