Storm Supply Tax Holiday Offered in Louisiana
Purchases of flashlights, batteries, portable generators and other emergency supplies are free from Louisiana’s 4 percent state sales tax May 24-25, state revenue officials said.
The Louisiana Hurricane Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday gives residents a chance to prepare for storm season, which begins June 1.
The sales tax holiday applies to the first $1,500 of the purchase price of each item, according to Revenue Secretary Tim Barfield.
Eligible items include:
_ Self-powered light sources, such as flashlights and candles.
_ Portable self-powered radios, two-way radios and weather-band radios.
_ Tarpaulins or other flexible waterproof sheeting.
_ Ground anchor systems, straps or tie-down kits.
_ Gas or diesel fuel tanks.
_ Batteries, sizes AAA, AA, C, D, 6-volt, or 9-volt. Automobile batteries and boat batteries are not eligible.
_ Cellular phone batteries and chargers.
_ Non-electric food storage coolers.
_ Portable generators.
_ Storm shutter devices specifically designed to prevent window damage from storms.
_ Carbon monoxide detectors.
Local taxes apply unless specifically exempted by local taxing authorities.
