Arson Charge for Texas Woman Trying to Collect Insurance Money
San Antonio police say a woman has been accused of starting her family’s house on fire in an alleged insurance scam that left her brother dead and their father hurt.
Police on Tuesday night arrested 19-year-old Miranda Herrera on capital murder and attempted capital murder counts. Bexar County jail records Wednesday didn’t immediately list bond or attorney information for Herrera.
Police also arrested a second suspect who was 16 at the time of the December fire. Charges are pending.
Sgt. Javier Salazar says the fire allegedly was set to collect insurance money. The blaze killed 22-year-old David Herrera Jr. and injured 48-year-old David Herrera Sr.
The fire initially was investigated as an accident but a tip led to the suspects.
Further details on the insurance aspect weren’t immediately released.
