Louisiana Reports 144 Workplace Fatalities
A new federal report says 144 people died in work-related accidents in Louisiana in 2013.
The Advocate reports the data compiled by the Bureau of Labor Statistics in its Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries shows the total was down two deaths from 2012.
Industries reporting the most fatalities in 2013 were trade, transportation and utilities with 37; construction, 17; natural resources and mining, 15; professional and business services, 14; manufacturing, 11; and government, nine.
A separate Bureau of Labor Statistics survey found that in 2012, non-fatal injuries and illnesses at Louisiana workplaces improved to their lowest level in a decade.
