Expect More Troopers on Patrol During Holidays in Texas
Texas troopers will increase patrols over the more than two-week holiday period with officers on the lookout for drunken drivers.
The Texas Department of Public Safety says expanded patrols begin Dec. 19 and run through Jan. 2. The period includes Christmas and New Year’s Day.
DPS officials announced troopers will focus on high-risk locations at times when alcohol-related crashes are most frequent.
Troopers during last year’s holiday enforcement period made 1,505 DWI arrests. The effort also resulted in 24,928 speeding citations, 2,997 seat belt/child safety seat citations, 1,078 fugitive arrests and 797 felony arrests.
The increased patrols are made possible through a Texas Department of Transportation grant.
