More Volunteers Needed to Assist Ala. Victims

With the recovery period for Alabama’s Hurricane Ivan disaster victims well underway, many have already received their disaster assistance checks or insurance payments.

Unfortunately, that does not mean that everyone’s needs have been addressed. Long-term recovery committees are working with individuals who still require assistance. These committees are looking for more volunteers to ensure all who need help get it.

“It is so important that we remember those who are still struggling to handle their immediate losses caused by Hurricane Ivan. With the holiday season approaching, let’s use this season of joy and recognition to lend a hand to help our neighbors”, said Penny Dendy, executive director of Volunteer Mobile.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is working closely with the state of Alabama and local community-based agencies to help determine ways to organize and deliver assistance without duplicating what other agencies can provide or have provided. Financial assistance, clean-up, home repair, and both crisis and spiritual counseling are some of the services provided by some of the member agencies listed below:
