Miss. Insurance Department Cautions: ‘Be Prepared, Vigilant’ for Hurricanes
Mississippi Insurance Commissioner George Dale has cautioned everyone to be “prepared and vigilant” for what could be a very active hurricane season.
When it was unsure where Hurricane Dennis would go, Dale’s office
communicated with all the major writers of homeowners insurance in Mississippi to ensure that they had adequate staff and resources to handle any damage claims from Hurricane Dennis.
Dale’s office took steps to ensure that companies were prepared to work with Mississippi residents to process their claims as soon as the storm passed.
“Mississippi residents were very fortunate to have been spared major damage from this storm,” Dale said.
When the threat of Hurricane Dennis loomed, several companies volunteered to run advertisements informing their insurers how to contact them. A special webpage, www.doi.state.ms.us/hurdennis.htm, was established on the Insurance Department’s website containing claims contact information for the major carriers serving state residents.
The webpage contains contact information for area insurance carriers including ALFA, Allstate, Mississippi Farm Bureau Mutual and Southern Farm Bureau Casualty, Nationwide and State Farm.
