Democrats Closing Gaps, Florida CFO, AG Races Neck-and-Neck
Florida Republicans who last month held slight leads over Democratic challengers are now in close races for two open Cabinet seats, a new poll shows.
In the attorney general race, Republican Bill McCollum was favored by 42 percent of the respondents, 39 percent chose Democrat Walter “Skip” Campbell and 19 percent were undecided, according to the survey done by Mason-Dixon Polling & Research Inc.
The 3 percentage point margin between the candidates is within the poll’s margin of sampling error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.
Last month’s Mason-Dixon poll showed McCollum with a nine point lead over Campbell. McCollum was favored by 44 percent of the respondents, 35 percent chose Campbell and 21 percent were undecided in September.
In the race for chief financial officer, meanwhile, Republican and state Senate President Tom Lee was the choice of 39 percent compared to 38 percent who preferred Democrat Adelaide “Alex” Sink, with 23 undecided.
Last month’s Mason-Dixon poll showed Lee with a six point lead over Sink. Lee was the choice of 40 percent compared to 34 percent who preferred Sink, with 26 percent undecided.
Mason-Dixon polled 625 registered voters from Oct. 16 and Oct. 17. September’s Mason-Dixon poll was conducted from Sept. 20-22 and also polled 625 registered voters. It also had a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.
