North Carolina Man Charged with Filing Fraudulent Diamond Ring Claim
North Carolina officials arrested a Garner, N.C. man and charged him with one count of insurance fraud and one count of obtaining property by false pretense, according to Insurance Commissioner Jim Long.
Long said a Department of Insurance investigator arrested Stephen Michael Williams, 50, on April 3. He was processed at the Wake County jail under a $5,000 secured bond.
The charges against Williams stem from allegations that he submitted an insurance claim and collected $9,000 for his wife’s diamond ring, which he allegedly claimed was lost while boating on Jordan Lake. His wife allegedly later told the insurance company that the ring was never lost. The two are in the process of divorce.
