Report: South Carolina Officials Label York Mill Fire as Suspicious
Officials say they now think the fire that destroyed a more than 100-year-old cotton mill in York, South Carolina is suspicious.
The Herald of Rock Hill reports that York Fire Chief Domenic Manera said authorities interviewed several people at the scene of the Lockmore Cotton Mill fire but have not identified them as suspects.
The paper says witnesses reported hearing an explosion about the time the fire began around 7 p.m. on April 17.
State and local officials have been investigating the fire. No injuries were reported at the complex being renovated into apartments for seniors.
Manera has said the renovations could have caused the building to burn faster.
