Former West Virginia Doctor Faces more Legal Challenges

July 29, 2008

John King, a former West Virginia osteopathic surgeon named in dozens of malpractice lawsuits, faces two more legal challenges.

King, who now lives in Alabama, is scheduled to be in court July 30 following a challenge to his bankruptcy petition by the Birmingham firm Cory, Watson, Crowder & DeGaris.

Putnam General Hospital, where King worked in 2002 and 2003, has already paid millions in settlements over the malpractice suits, but King has been shielded from financial damages by his bankruptcy filing.

The Alabama State Board of Medical Examiners has scheduled a hearing for late August on whether King should have his license revoked in that state.

King already surrendered his medical license in a number of states, including West Virginia.
