Feds Propose Stiff Fine for Alabama Military Contractor
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration proposed $138, 500 in penalties for a Cullman, Alabama-based company for 31 safety and health violations.
AAR Summa Technology has been singled out by the agency for 26 safety violations. OSHA said its inspectors found reactive chemicals, cryogenic tanks exposed to damage and the improper storage and handling of flammable liquids.
Subsequent inspections found 5 serious health violations that included over exposure to silica, zinc oxide fumes and exposure to blood-borne pathogens.

The company has 15 days to appeal the proposed penalties announced Aug. 26.
