Southeast Coastal Storm to Bring Brisk Winds, Waves
Powerful winds promised to scour the Southeast coast with strong winds and heavy seas, though residents were taking the promise of 50-mile-an-hour gusts in stride.
The National Weather Service issued high wind warnings for the coasts of North Carolina, Virginia and Maryland through early Sept. 25. The effects of strong high pressure over New England clashing with low pressure off the southeast coast was also being felt as far south as parts of the Florida coast.
Weather reports of heavy surf accompanying the winds were attracting surfers to beach towns like Isle of Palms, S.C., said Dwight Barr, a supervisor at The Palms Hotel.
