Federal Report: Doomed South Carolina Jet on Fire before Stopping
A federal report says a jet that crashed last month in South Carolina, killing four people and injuring two others, was on fire as it shot across a road at the end of a runway.
The preliminary report the National Transportation Safety Board submitted Oct. 7 sheds little new light on the crash at the Columbia airport that injured celebrity disc jockey DJ-AM and former Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker. It does indicate the inferno that consumed the plane started on the airport side of the road before the jet barreled into an embankment on the other side.
Witnesses saw sparks coming from the plane. The crew told air traffic controllers a tire blew and were trying to abort the takeoff.
Barker and DJ AM, whose real name is Adam Goldstein, are expected to fully recover.
