Fire Destroys Small Alabama Church
Alabama and federal officials are probing a Lowndes County church fire.
A passerby spotted the blaze Oct. 10 at the Hayneville Church of Christ.
Aladino Ortiz, the resident agent in charge of the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms in Montgomery, said by the time Lowndes County sheriff’s deputies arrived, smoke was billowing from the small church that has a congregation of about 50.
Ortiz says the church is a total loss, with more than $200,000 in damage.
Cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
