Experts: Tire Rims from South Carolina Learjet Scarred Runway
Federal aviation officials say tires on the doomed jet that crashed last month in South Carolina, killing four and injuring two others, shredded as the plane ran out of runway.
The National Transportation Safety Board also said that adhesive used on reflectors used to mark the runway in Columbia was found near debris from the tires of the Learjet that crashed on takeoff just before midnight Sept. 19.
The plane’s pilot and co-pilot were killed in the crash. Former Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker and celebrity DJ AM were injured in the crash.
Both men are expected to fully recover.
The cockpit voice recorder on the plane indicates that crew members thought a tire blew as they hurtled down the runway before failing to abort the takeoff.
