South Carolina Better Prepared for Disaster; Lags Only on Liability Issue

The latest report by a health research group shows South Carolina is better prepared for a massive disaster than it was a year ago.

The sixth annual “Ready or Not?” report by the Trust for America’s Health says South Carolina performed adequately in nine of the 10 categories that were measured. The report says South Carolina does not have laws limiting the liability of businesses and non-profits that help during an emergency.

South Carolina performed better than 38 states and Washington, D.C. Five states, including North Carolina, earned a perfect 10.

Last year, the report said South Carolina did not have adequate plans to distribute vaccines and medical supplies in a disaster. The state has since bolstered its plans for a pandemic.
