67 North Carolina Violent Crime Victims to Receive Compensation
North Carolina has agreed to reimburse more than $1 million to violent crime victims in North Carolina who were forced to shoulder costs related to the crime.
The North Carolina Crime Victims Compensation Commission approved 67 claims for assistance that total more than $1 million.
Commission director Janice Carmichael said that 41 claims were denied, but that seven others totaling almost $162,000 will be considered in March. She said payments should be distributed soon.
Established in 1983, the Crime Victims Compensation Commission reimburses victims for medical bills, lost wages and other out-of-pocket expenses related to the crimes against them.
