Kentucky City Sues Insurer Over Allegedly Unpaid Molestation Claims
City officials in Lexington, Kentucky are suing an insurance company they say has failed to pay lawsuit settlements in a child molestation case.
The Lexington Herald-Leader reported the Urban County Government filed suit against Icarom, based in Ireland, saying the company did not respond to claims over settlements with five plaintiffs.
The cases involved a city program for disadvantaged youth in which some 200 former clients have sued, claiming they were sexually and physically abused by program director Ron Berry.
He was convicted of a dozen sodomy counts in 2000 and served a three-year prison term.
The newspaper reported the five plaintiffs were parties to either a lawsuit that settled for $2.4 million or a pending lawsuit before a federal court in Lexington and said insurance company officials could not be reached for comment.
