West Virginia Elementary School Closed for Lack of Fire Alarms
A private elementary school in West Virginia’s Jefferson County was forced to cancel classes because it doesn’t have fire alarms or sprinklers now has other issues to address.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office is requiring Bolivar Christian Academy to remedy 18 points of noncompliance before reopening.
Its report mentions several issues the Jefferson County Health Department noted in February, including a lack of fire alarms and a sprinkler system. Other issues include inadequate exits and emergency lighting.
The office conducted its inspection March 9 to settle any questions about whether the health department had the authority to shutter the school.
Parent Bob Adams says the school is working on a compliance plan.
Bolivar students are attending classes at Rock Spring Church.
