Former Kentucky Mine Owner Faces Possible Jail Time for Safety Violation
A former eastern Kentucky coal mine owner has pleaded guilty to a safety violation and could face a $250,000 fine plus a year in jail.
Fifty-six-year-old Alger B. Jent of Kite in Knott County entered his plea in U.S. District Court in Pikeville.
A news release from the U.S. attorney for eastern Kentucky says Jent had been the operator of CSA Mining No. 2 mine, an underground coal mine on the Pike and Letcher county line.
He pleaded guilty to improperly installing roof bolts, meaning the mine roof was not adequately supported as required by federal law.
Jent will be sentenced June 28 in Pikeville.
