Mississippi Shrimpers File Federal Suit over Oil Spill

Two commercial shrimpers in Mississippi have filed a $5 million class action lawsuit against companies they say are responsible for the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.

Charlie C. Nguyen and Bihn Van Nguyen, both of Biloxi, filed the lawsuit Monday in U.S. District Court in Gulfport.

The plaintiffs contend they are dependent on Gulf shrimp for their livelihood, which has been interrupted — and could be destroyed — by the oil spill.

The defendants include Transocean Ltd. and its entities, with corporate offices in Houston, Texas; BP America and its entities; Halliburton Energy Services and Cameron International Corp.

The Ngyuens’ lawsuit is one of several filed by gulf fishermen over the past few days in Mississippi and other states.
