EEOC Says Deal Reached in Mississippi Nursing Home Suit
The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission says a settlement has been reached in a discrimination lawsuit filed against a Meridian nursing home.
An EEOC news release says Poplar Springs Nursing Center LLC will pay $40,000 and provide other relief to settle the lawsuit filed on behalf of 53-year-old Gloria Carey, who is black.
The EEOC says Carey was denied a social worker position because of her age and race.
The EEOC says Carey had 27 years of social worker experience, but a younger, white female was the only candidate interviewed and hired.
When contacted Tuesday, a woman at the nursing center refused to comment about the matter.
