Kentucky Traffic Deaths Lowest in Years
Traffic deaths in Kentucky are on pace to be the lowest this year since at least the early 1990s.
As of last Wednesday, there were 739 traffic fatalities in Kentucky, according to the state highway safety office’s web site.
That’s down from 791 deaths in 2009, which was the lowest since 1994.
Boyd Sigler, the highway safety director, said he thinks Kentucky drivers are focusing more buckling up and not driving while intoxicated.
Starting in 2011, police will give tickets for sending text messages while driving, under a rule state lawmakers approved earlier this year. Police have been issuing warnings since July about the new law.
