Georgia Storms Caused $50 Million in Insured Losses

April 7, 2011

Insured losses from storms that slammed Georgia late Monday and early Tuesday will be an estimated $50 million.

Georgia Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner Ralph Hudgens said that estimate does not include uninsured losses. The number is an increase from his original estimate of $32 million.

Hudgens’ office issued a statement reminding Georgians to take steps to be prepared for storms, such as making a list of all valuables and keeping that information in a safe place outside of the home.

At least nine people across the Southeast were killed by the storms, which spawned tornadoes and knocked out power in several states.
