NICB Sees 119% Rise in Florida Suspicious Accident Claims
The number of staged accident questionable claims in Florida increased 119 percent during the time period of January 1, 2008 through December 31, 2010, according to a National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) report.
In 2008, a total of 1,268 Florida suspicious accident claims were referred to NICB from its member insurance companies compared with 1,999 in 2009 and 2,779 in 2010.
Hillsborough, Dade and Orange were the top three counties for suspicious accident claims while Tampa, Orlando and Miami were highest among the cities.
Tampa outpaced all the other cities with a staggering 491 percent increase, growing from a reported 125 suspicious accident claims in 2008 to 739 in 2010.
