North Florida Teen Hit in Head by Baseball Dies
Jacksonville school officials say a Ribault High School player has died from injuries suffered during the team’s batting practice.
The official says the 17-year-old player died Saturday, three days after being struck in the head by a baseball that ricocheted off a pitching screen. The teen was apparently throwing batting practice behind a screen, called an L-screen, when the accident happened.
Jacksonville’s News4Jax reports the boy was conscious after being hit. He was taken to Shands Jacksonville Medical Center.
School officials say grief counselors were at the school on Monday.
