Alabama Town Authorizes Red Light Camera Study
The Birmingham suburb of Vestavia Hills has approved plans for a study of intersections where red light cameras could be installed to nab motorists who run them.
The City Council voted Monday to allow the mayor to enter a contract with Redflex Traffic Systems for a study of the issue.
The Birmingham News reports that the Arizona company will now examine intersections to see whether cameras are warranted.
Vestavia Hills could become the third Jefferson County city to approve installing red light cameras at some intersections.
Center Point and Midfield have already received approval to install the cameras, which photograph red light-running motorists who then face fines.
