Alabama Condemns More Storm-Damaged Buildings
The Tuscaloosa City Council has approved condemning a total of 61 residential or commercial properties that have sat largely untouched since the April 27 tornado.
The Tuscaloosa News reports that one of the most visible structures approved for condemnation Tuesday is the Spiller Furniture building on 26th Avenue East.
An additional 27 structures – including five of those added on Tuesday – remain tabled and await a final decision. Most of the decisions to table a vote were recommended by the city’s Incident Command team, which cited either active work by property owners to make the building safe or owners’ ongoing negotiations with the insurance company.
