Weather Service Documenting Tornado Destruction
National Weather Service officials say damage surveys were continuing Tuesday in several parts of Alabama after an outbreak of severe storms and tornadoes.
The weather service says one team will be surveying damage in Perry and Chilton counties. Another will be in Tuscaloosa and Jefferson counties. A third team will survey damage in Elmore, Autauga and Tallapoosa counties.
Survey crews have already confirmed some tornadoes during the Monday outbreak.
The weather service said a super cell that spawned two tornadoes in northern Tuscaloosa County also produced an EF-3 tornado with an estimated wind speed of 150 mph that struck the town of Clay.
The storms and twisters during Monday’s pre-dawn outbreak killed two people and injured more than 100 others.
