Wiring Issues Cause Problems at Georgia Jail
A report to Georgia’s Floyd County Commssion from the county sheriff’s office reveals concerns about safety issues at the county jail.
During a recent fire drill doors in the maximum security cellblock began to open randomly of their own accord. The Rome News Tribune reports that Floyd County Jail officials said they had no choice but to disconnect the electronically controlled fire doors through the entire 256,000-square-foot building.
This was one of many problems that officers encountered during a mock fire drill conducted last month at the jail.
But before these problems can be fixed, county officials have to overcome their biggest obstacle -money.
Maj. Bob Sapp, jail administrator, said the problems were caused by a leaky roof.
