Injunction Issued Against Alabama Storm Shelter Company
A Madison County court has issued a permanent injunction against an Alabama storm shelter company.
WAFF-TV reports that the injunction issued Tuesday means the operators of Tornado Masters, Leslie and Grady Holt, cannot build any more storm shelters.
Alabama Attorney General Luther Strange had asked for the injunction.
The court found that the company, based in Toney, violated Alabama’s Deceptive Trade Practices Act. Witnesses said the company claimed in advertisements that the concrete and anchors in the shelters met specifications established by the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The court found none of the shelters met FEMA standards.
Tornado Masters was also accused of claiming their shelters were tested at Texas Tech University and would withstand an EF-5 tornado. The court found that neither of these claims is true.
