NTSB Releases Report in TV Host’s Plane Crash
The National Transportation Safety Board has released a preliminary report in its investigation into a small plane crash that killed the host of a popular fishing show.
Jose Wejebe was killed on April 6 after the experimental, amateur-built aircraft he was flying crashed shortly after takeoff from Everglades Airpark in southwest Florida.
The Cuban-born Wejebe hosted “Spanish Fly,” a saltwater fishing show on the Outdoor Channel.
The NTSB report states Wejebe’s plane reached an altitude of about 100 to 150 feet and then made a sharp-right turn before crashing. It also notes there were wind gusts of up to about 24 miles per hour and that Wejebe did not file a flight plan.
Wejebe had a private pilot certificate and had logged more than 1,000 hours of flight experience.
